North Texas Chapter of American Research Center in Egypt Presentation the European team excavating the Colossi of Memnon as this evening's speaker.

We usually meet the third Saturday of every month, but sometimes we change because of the speaker's schedule. 7:00 p.m. - refreshments. 7:30 - Meeting opens. Dallas Contemporary Legends Exhibit - Joseph Havel: Two Sheets (to the wind) detailsdetails

Embarking on the fall season with its 16th annual Dallas Contemporary Legends artist, Dallas Contemporary proudly presents the works of noted artist, teacher and administrator in Joseph Havel: Two Sheets (to the wind). Opening Friday, September 5th.

Enjoy free admission with complementary lite snacks, beer and wine. The exhibition continues September 5 to December 24, 2008 and is open to the public Tuesday to Saturday, 10 to 5 pm.

Throughout an influential career, Joseph Havel's work has been shown nationally and internationally to critical acclaim. His recent solo exhibitions have included a ten-year retrospective in 2006 at the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, Joseph Havel: A Decade of Sculpture, as well as a solo exhibition at the Laumeier Sculpture Park in St. Louis, Missouri. In the spring of 2007, he exhibited at the Baltic Centre for Contemporary Art, Gateshead, England. Havel's work was included in the 2000 Biennial Exhibition at the Whitney Museum of American Art in New York. His sculptures and drawings can be found in the permanent collections of the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston; the Contemporary Arts Museum, Honolulu; Dallas Museum of Art; Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth; Musee Arte, Roubaix, France; and the Whitney Museum of American Art.

Havel lives and works in Houston, received his BFA from Pennsylvania State University and an MFA from the University of Minnesota, and currently serves as the Director of the Glassell School of Art at the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston.

Artist Joseph Havel is joined by the other honorees: Quin Mathews [arts professional] and Allen & [arts patrons]. The exultations will begin at Dallas Contemporary Legends 2008 on Thursday, September 4, 2008 at the Dallas Contemporary's inviting galleries east of downtown for a cocktail party featuring the best foods, libations, and music Dallas has to offer. Tickets begin at $125 for members and $150 for non-members.
