Far West, Times Ten = 99

Members of the Lakewood Neighborhood Association will gather this evening from 7-8 at Times Ten Cellars to discuss the upcoming City Hall hearing to consider the 99-year specific use permit granted to what is now the Far West dance hall and club.

The permit, granted by City Council in 1995, is one of two such long-term use agreements in place, and only Far West abuts a neighborhood. The other is in an industrial area of West Dallas near Mockingbird Lane and Harry Hines Boulevard.

Henda Salmeron, president of LNA, said the meeting serves as a strategy session for area residents to present their cases against the SUP to the City Council during a hearing set for Sept. 11. She has a petition still circulating and is assembling a package of residents' complaints — for example, one resident of Vivian Avenue updates a spreadsheet on which she records the times she's heard gunfire she attributes to Far West, and the tally in 2½ years stands at 506.

Should be an interesting meeting or two.End of story
