Newness abounds at J.L. Long Middle School. The new school year started last week. A new principal officially took the reins the week before classes resumed, and a new panel of site-based decision management representatives conducts its first meeting of the 2008-09 school year tomorrow.
The meeting convenes at 5:30 p.m. Sept. 4 in the school library.
The SBDM group comprises parents, community members, school personnel, and other volunteers with an interest in enriching the educational process for students.
Patrick Luna, the group's chairman for the 2008-09 school year, particularly hopes to see parents of incoming sixth-graders participate in the team's activities.
Strong community participation also should benefit Long's new principal, Danielle Petters, in her first full term at the helm.
