Summer Holbrook, center, her mother and father, Gregg and Birgie Holbrook, left, and daughter and husband, Paloma and Gregg Wadle, will wave to folks back in the old Lakewood-area neighborhood from the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing.
When Summer Holbrook boards her flight to San Francisco this morning, she begins the journey that will complete a lifelong goal.
Her final destination, Beijing, represents the seventh continent Holbrook will have visited, rounding out her personal journeys to all seven major land masses.
"It's just a crazy goal I've had, seeing all seven continents before I turned 30."
In all due honestly, Holbrook turned 30 July 14, but she previously visited Istanbul, Turkey, which overlaps the European-Asian Bosphorus line. China, however, officially caps the goal lass than a month after her 30th birthday.
She and her family — husband, Wes Wadle; daughter, Paloma Wadle; father and mother Gregg and Birgie Holbrook — board the flight to San Francisco at 6 a.m. today, and depart the West Coast at 11 a.m. bound for Beijing, where they touch down at 11 a.m., and the Summer Olympics. They will cross the International Dateline en route and mark the event, she hopes, with a lesser type of celebration than occurs at sea.
"I hope the hoopla of crossing the dateline involves sleeping, mostly my daughter," she said with a laugh.
