Dallas drivers seem to have difficulty with the meaning of different traffic light colors. I've seen cars approaching intersections speed though red lights, accelerate to warp speed for yellow lights, and ride the brakes through green lights.
Well, Dallas's own Mayor Tom wants to explain to everyone what at least one of those colors means. The camera at the Mockingbird Lane-Abrams Road intersection helps explain that stop concept, too.
Anyway, the mayor, according to a release from City Hall, has proclaimed Aug. 4-9 "National Stop on Red Week." Someone needs to explain to him that he's a municipal mayor not a national president or imperial monarch.
But does this mean we can ignore red lights the other 51 weeks of the year? Evidently, some people think so.

I thought that's what traffic tickets were supposed to do! No wonder we have a budget deficit. We're spending money to "remind" people about driver's ed 101, rather than cracking down and handing out more tickets, which would bring in more revenue (and be more effective!).

I find people drive pretty crazy in general, not just through red lights. At least once a day I am amazed by someone's traffic antics.

Yeah - just this morning on my run - a guy leaving La Vista at Abrams decided he didn't think waiting for the red light to turn green was for him - so he proceeded to just turn left after sitting there about 10 seconds.. busy busy man - almost ran me over!

This isn't about a red light, but it's another didn't-you-go-to-driver's-ed moment.
Yesterday, I nearly hit a cyclist. It was at the four-way stop at Winstead and White Rock Road, and the driver on my left, who didn't have the right of way, waved a cyclist through the stop sign as I drove into the intersection. No!
At a stop sign or red light, a bike = a car. Yes, I know it's the bottom of the hill and it's a tough ride up, but bikes do have to completely stop and wait for the right of way. Luckily, the biker declined to go. Smart man; HE knew the traffic rules.
