Families who meet low-income requirements and have children enrolled to attend classes within the Dallas ISD — Woodrow Wilson High School, J.L. Long Middle School, and Stonewall Jackson, Lakewood, Robert E. Lee, William Lipscomb, Eduardo Mata elementary schools — today and tomorrow can ensure their places in the Mayor's Back-to-School Fair.
The program equips families and students of low-income households with school supplies and health services for the coming school year.
Early registration takes place from 2-7 p.m. Aug 1 and 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Aug. 2 at Fair Park in the Women's Museum Auditorium.
The free fair will take place from 8 a.m. -2 p.m. Aug. 7 at the Automobile and Centennial Hall buildings in Fair Park
The fair started in 1997 as a drug prevention program but is now the best place to gear up for the new school year for some of the 90 percent of DISD families that live below the poverty level. DISD, the public health department, state agencies, nonprofit groups, corporations, and volunteers band together to reduce the number of students who do not return to school on time because of a lack of school supplies and health services.
